sounders friendly Entry:

sounders friendly

On Saturday, B and I went to see the friendly between the Seattle Sou*nders and Chelsea. It was awesome! Normally, they only open up some of the seats in the football stadium for soccer games, but they opened up all the seats for this match, and it sold out. Apparently, there were more than 65000 people there, the vast majority of them Sounders fans. We took a water taxi from W. Sea*ttle (with a boatload of Sounders fans) and walked from there. The streets were just packed with people walking in. B and I had nosebleed seats (Row EE in the upper level), but we enjoyed it nonetheless. The atmosphere was just fantastic. The Sounders lost 2-0, but played quite well, and had control of the ball probably roughly half the game. They must have had 15 corner kicks but just couldn't convert.

It's really cool how successful the Sounders have been in Seattle support-wise. Basically every game has been sold out (though usually they only open up about half the stadium). I think a lot of Son*ics fans were looking for a new team to support. I'm just not into football or baseball. A live game is usually fun no matter what the sport, but they just don't compare to basketball. I played soccer for years as a kid, and I think it's a sport I can get excited about.

Some photos here.
